AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is the optimization practice aimed at appearing in direct answers provided by search engines: featured snippets, "People Also Ask", Google AI Overviews, and other immediate response formats.
AEO and GEO are complementary but distinct. AEO focuses on direct answers in traditional search engines (Google, Bing), while GEO targets independent generative AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude). In practice, the techniques largely overlap: content optimized in Answer-First performs well in both contexts.
